FLAGLER SYMPHONIC SOCIETY ANNOUNCES THIRD ANNUAL MOZART WEEKEND

The Flagler Symphonic Society (FSS) will hold their third annual Mozart Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, April 16th and 17th. The weekend will offer chamber music by the Flagler Chamber Players, performances by the FSS Youth String Orchestra and the Flagler Symphony. As in the past, the festival will include an art show featuring the works of local artists.

The festival begins with "An Evening of Mozart at the Beach" on Saturday, April 26th at The Club at Hammock Beach, 200 Ocean Crest Drive in the Hammock, with cocktails and cash bar at 6:30 p.m. and the performance at 7:30 p.m. The black-tie optional evening will feature the Flagler Chamber Players performing Mozart’s String Quartet in C Major, K.465 ("Dissonance") and the Quintet in A Major for Clarinet and Strings, K.581. Tickets are $35 per person.

On Sunday, April 17th, two free concerts, open to the public, will be held in the Amphitheater on the DBCC Palm Coast Campus, together with an art show and special viewing of DBCC’s permanent collection of original art. The art show opens at noon with the collection tour at 1 p.m. The art show will be closed during the concerts.

Starting at 2 p.m., the FSS Youth String Orchestra, under the direction of Diana Bumgardner, will perform. The Youth String Orchestra is an on-going musical project of FSS within the Flagler County School system. The program offers collegial string instruction and performance opportunities to students with a desire to play, regardless of their ability to play. This year’s young peoples orchestra is comprised of one student from each of Flagler County’s eight public and charter schools, including Cornerstone Elementary and Summit Middle School.

At 3 p.m. the Flagler Symphony, a 38-piece orchestra led by Maestro David Reichert Sprung, will perform Rossini’s Overture Il Signor Brushchino and Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet in A. Major, K.622 and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in g minor, K.550. Returning as guest artist to perform Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet is Paul Green, a distinguished clarinetist and prominent Florida musician.

The public is invited to view the works of award winning local artists before the concerts. The tour of DBCC’s permanent collection of original art, founded in 2000 by the Gargiulo Art Foundation, will begin at 1 p.m., in Building 2, Room 205. Docents for the tour will be Flagler County’s Artist of the Year, Linda Solomon and artist representative, Arlene C. Volpe.

Tickets for "An Evening of Mozart at the Beach" are $35 per person. In Palm Coast tickets may be purchased at Aimee’s Hallmark, Palm Coast Printing, and the West office of Prudential Warren Real Estate, or by calling 386-447-8911. In Flagler Beach and the Hammock tickets are available at the Prudential Warren Real Estate offices.

PAUL GREEN, NOTED CLARINET SOLOIST, MAKES RETURN APPEARANCE AT THE FLAGLER SYMPHONIC SOCIETY’S MOZART WEEKEND

Making a return appearance to the Flagler Symphonic Society’s Mozart Weekend, April 16 and 17, noted clarinetist, Paul Green, will be solo artist with both the Flagler Chamber Players and the Flagler Symphony.

Mr. Green’s first performance be with the Flagler Chamber Players at "An Evening of Mozart at the Beach," on Saturday, April 26th at 7:30 p.m. at The Club at Hammock Beach. He will be soloist for the Quintet in A Major for Clarinet and Strings, K.581. This concert will also feature Mozart’s String Quartet in C. Major.K.465 ("Dissonance"), performed by Jerry Weiss, First Violin, Jill Weiss, Second Violin, Elizabeth Prior-Runnicles, Viola and Oliver Schlaffer, Cello.

On Sunday, April 17, Paul Green will be featured soloist in Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet in A Major, K.622 when the Flagler Symphony presents it’s concert on day two of the Mozart Weekend. The Flagler Symphony, a 38-piece orchestra comprised of professional musicians, will be presenting a free concert at 3 p.m. in the Amphitheater on the Palm Coast Campus of Daytona Beach Community College (DBCC).

Symphony Maestro David Reichert Sprung says, "Paul is a prominent Florida musician who comes to us from some distance because of the music potential he feels we offer." A winner of the Distinguished Artists Award of the Artists International Competition in 1988, Mr. Green was the principal clarinetist of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for the 1989-90 season and is presently the principal clarinetist of the Symphony of the Americas and the Atlantic Classical Orchestra. He is also Artist/Faculty in Clarinet at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University in Boca Raton, and Clarinet and Chamber Music Faulty at the School of Music at Florida International University in Miami and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Paul Green served as 1997 Artistic Ambassador for the United States Information Agency. He toured, gave master classes and performed in Moldova, Syria, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia. In 1998, he returned to Moldova to participate in the Eighth International "The Days of New Music" Contemporary Music Festival. In 2001, he returned to perform in Krakow and in 2002, he was Conference Director at the EuroArts Festival in Pusan, South Korea, as well as participating in music festivals at Brasov, Romania and Xian, China.

A former attorney and professor at Brooklyn Law School, Mr. Green is founder and artistic director of the Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival, which has received wide critical acclaim for bringing a world class chamber music festival to South Florida.

The Mozart Weekend is a combination of music and art. The chamber music presentation at "An Evening of Mozart at the Beach" on Saturday, April 26th is a black-tie optional evening starting at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and cash bar and the performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person.

RE: ART SHOW COUPLES WITH MOZART WEEKEND FOR CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

The Flagler Symphonic Society continues it’s three-year tradition of combining classical music with an art show to offer Flagler County a truly cultural weekend at the Mozart Weekend on April 16th and 17th.

Award-winning local artists will present their works on Sunday, April 17th from noon to 4 p.m. on the Palm Coast campus of the Daytona Community College (DBCC). Works by Tom Anastasio, Peter Cerreta, Claire Jacobson, Linda Solomon, Sheila Crawford, Larry England, Diane Kay Roose, Inez Maisannes, Hanneke Javons, Jane Sbordone, Dotty Loop, TLG, Carol Bertrand, Marin Hayle, Tom Gargiulo, and Jeffery Parsons will be shown.

As an added attraction, a guided tour of the entire DBCC permanent collection of original art, founded by the Guargiulo Art Foundation in the year 2000, will be given. Docents will be Flagler County’s Artist of the Year, Linda Solomon and artist representative, Arlene C. Volpe. Those interested in viewing the collection should meet at 1 p.m. in Building 2, Room 106. There is no charge for the show or the tour.

This special tour will be the first public viewing of five new acquisitions: three paintings by Linda Solomon, purchased by the Gargiulo Art Foundation with the generous support of the City of Palm Coast; photography by Mark, Lynne Adelle and James Morgan, purchased by Nancy McNair and Glenn Totten of Senior Resources, Ormond Beach, and sponsor of "The Family Affair" exhibit; and a 1971 oil painting by Tom Gargiulo, purchased by friends, in memorial of Edward Fernandez of Milford, Connecticut, specially for this Palm Coast art collection.

The art show will be closed during the continuation of the Mozart Weekend’s musical performances.

At 2 p.m. the FSS Youth String Orchestra, led by Diana Bumgardner, will perform. NEW AUDITORIUM FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA WHITNEY LAB

COLLABORATION FOR FUNDRAISING WITH THE FLAGLER SYMPHONIC SOCIETY

The Whitney Lab located at the northern tip of Flagler County along the western side of A1A is under construction with new buildings to house the labs, dormitories and an auditorium to seat 270 in 17,000sf.  The auditorium, which will face the intracoastal waterway, is the first of the new development.  It will be available for use by local community groups.  One such group is the Flagler Symphonic Society which has stepped up to assist the University in its final fund raising efforts and is looking forward to its future use.

Dr. Peter Anderson of the University of Florida Whitney Lab is pleased with the pace of construction of the auditorium which is expected to be completed in August, 2006.  The University of Florida is funding the construction for the basic building. Fundraising for the last $1.5 million is underway that will provide the necessary funds to add attractive wood paneling in the auditorium, exterior stucco, entrance canopy, sandblast logo on exterior wall, a small exterior amphitheatre and a salt water pond entryway.  Naming rights to the auditorium will be granted for a full contribution.  Progress of the construction can be viewed at www.whitney.ufl.edu.

Mrs. Cornelia Manfre, President of the Flagler Symphonic society is honored to be working with Dr. Anderson as are the members of the Board of Directors of the Flagler Symphonic Society. The  Chairperson for this fundraising effort is Mrs. Joanna Warren of Prudential Warren Real Estate who has set planning meetings and is enthusiastic about this role and confident of the area’s business and community support for this beautiful new entertainment venue for Flagler County and adjoining St. John’s County.

The Flagler Symphonic Society will plan chamber ensembles & piano recitals that will entertain the Flagler & St. John’s communities.  Guest artists will be announced as the season is planned at the new Whitney Lab Auditorium.  The schedule of events can be obtained at www.flaglersymphonicsociety.com.

FLAGLER SYMPHONIC SOCIETY ANNOUNCES 4TH ANNUAL MOZART WEEKEND

The Flagler Symphonic Society announces that this year’s Mozart Weekend will take place the last weekend in April, 2006. Two programs are planned. Both events will feature violin virtuoso Dawn Harms. On Friday, April 28 at 7:00 pm, Ms. Harms will appear in a special free Family Concert in the DBCC, Palm Coast amphitheater, accompanied by members of the Flagler Symphony Chamber Orchestra’s strings. In this concert, Ms. Harms will interact with the audience to engage them in a demonstration about music and the violin and will perform Vivaldi’s “Spring” Concerto from the Four Seasons.

On Sunday, April 30 at 3:00 at the Palm Coast Yacht Club the Society will present a special “Café Mozart” event, recreating the ambience of a Viennese coffee house, with appropriate pastries and refreshments. On this occasion, the Flagler Symphony Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Music Director David Reichert Sprung, will present an all-Mozart program featuring Dawn Harms in the Violin Concerto in D, K. 218. Other works include the overture to the opera La Finta Giardiniera, K. 196 and the Symphony no. 33 in B-flat Major, K. 319. Admission to this event is $40, including refreshments. A cash bar will also be available.
